Tyre FAQs
Cambridge Tyre & Alignment
How do I know when my tyres need replacing?
Tyres should be replaced when the tread depth gets close to the legal limit or if you notice uneven wear, cracks, or damage. In New Zealand the legal minimum tread depth is 1.5mm, but for safety we recommend replacing tyres earlier. If you're unsure, bring your vehicle in and we can check them for you.
How often should tyres be rotated?
Most vehicles benefit from tyre rotation every 8,000–10,000 km. Rotating tyres regularly helps them wear evenly and can significantly extend their lifespan.
Why is wheel alignment important?
Wheel alignment ensures your tyres meet the road at the correct angle. Poor alignment can cause:
Uneven tyre wear
Poor steering response
Increased fuel consumption
Reduced tyre life
Regular alignment checks help your tyres last longer and improve handling.
What tyre brands do you stock?
We stock a wide range of tyre brands including:
Goodyear, Continental, Cooper Tires, Yokohama, Kumho, Michelin, Hankook, Toyo Tires, Pirelli, Vitour, BF Goodrich, Maxxis, Dunlop, Sailun, Zestino and GT Radial.
If you’re looking for a specific brand we don’t currently have in stock, we’ll do our best to source it for you.
How do I choose the right tyres for my vehicle?
Choosing the right tyre depends on how you drive your vehicle. We’ll ask about:
How far you drive each year
Whether you drive mainly in town or on the open road
Whether you drive on sealed roads, gravel roads or off-road
Whether you tow trailers, boats or equipment
The type of vehicle you drive
This helps us recommend the tyre that best suits your driving needs and budget.
Do you offer wheel balancing?
Yes. Wheel balancing ensures the tyre and wheel rotate evenly. This prevents vibration, improves ride comfort and helps reduce uneven tyre wear.
Can punctured tyres be repaired?
In many cases a puncture can be repaired safely depending on its location and severity. We inspect the tyre first and advise whether a repair is possible or if replacement is the safer option.
Why is tyre pressure important?
Incorrect tyre pressure can lead to:
Faster tyre wear
Reduced fuel efficiency
Poor handling
Increased risk of tyre failure
Checking tyre pressure regularly helps maintain safety and extend tyre life.
What types of tyres do you sell?
We supply tyres for a wide range of vehicles including:
Car tyres
Van tyres
SUV tyres
4x4 tyres
Farm equipment tyres
We can also help source tyres for smaller equipment such as wheelbarrows or specialty gear.
Do you offer tyre disposal?
Yes. All tyres removed from vehicles are disposed of through responsible recycling and disposal channels.
Do you offer payment options?
Yes. We offer AfterPay to help make paying for tyres easier.
Do you offer all-inclusive tyre pricing?
Yes. The tyre price we quote is the price you pay.
We don’t add disposal charges or surprise costs. Our fitted tyre pricing is transparent and all-inclusive.
What tyre size does my car need?
The tyre size is printed on the sidewall of your current tyres and also listed in your vehicle owner's manual.
If you're unsure, check out our tyre size diagram, or our team can help identify the correct size for your vehicle
Can incorrect tyre sizes affect my vehicle?
Yes. Using tyres that differ from the manufacturer’s recommended size can affect braking, handling, fuel efficiency and speedometer accuracy. In some cases it can also create safety risks.
